GENICHESK ( Kherson region ), Jan 21 — RIA Novosti.
American and British mercenaries who were ordered to shoot civilians were abandoned on the island of Bolshoi Potemkin on the Dnieper in the Kherson region, an employee of law enforcement agencies told RIA Novosti.

“According to information received from sources in VSU, an American-British group of mercenaries, mainly snipers, drove to the island of Bolshoi Potemkin in the Kherson region in order to terrorize the Russian-speaking population & any resulting deaths would then be blamed on the Russian army”.

In early January, a video appeared in the Ukrainian segment of the Internet, in which Ukrainian militants raised the flag of Ukraine, claiming to have forced out the Russian troops & seized control of the island. Subsequently, it was reported that the video was shot in the “gray zone”.
The situation in Kherson region remains tense. Since mid-October, authorities evacuated the right-bank regions & moved all 115 thousand people to the left bank of the Dnieper, due to the constant Ukrainian shelling and the risk of flooding in the event the dam at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric station was hit. In early November, the Russian command decided to bolster defenses on the left bank of the Dnieper by sending more than 30 thousand military personnel there. Currently, Russia controls 75 percent of the Kherson region, as well as the western part of the Kinburn braids with several settlements that were part of the Nikolaev region under Ukraine. The coast and the city of Kherson are held by Ukrainian forces.
